Laura Connely
As a girl, Laura Connely spent many hours at the foot of her mother’s easel, but she never really thought of being an artist herself. Carole Connely was the artist in the family. After the loss of her mother, Laura felt drawn to pick up a paintbrush herself and in doing so she discovered her own gift. Though she didn’t study art in school, Laura is hesitant to say that she is “self-taught”. She sees her life being raised by two artistic parents as the best art education one could hope for. Laura has been enjoying her new adventures in the small town of Washington where in addition to painting, songwriting, and playing guitar, she also teaches all three. The surrounding farms and their produce turn up as subjects of her paintings, as do many musicians and friends. She once owned and operated a bed-and-breakfast in one of Washington’s many historic buildings. According to local legend, biscuits were Laura’s art form back then.
