Mike’s Art Truck
“Side Roads: Folk Art from Mike’s Art Truck” on view at the Orange County Public Library
Exhibit runs January 4, 2016 through February 26, 2016
Hillsborough, N.C. – The Orange County Public Library (OCPL) is hosting a 50-piece exhibition of folk art curated by the owners of Mike’s Art Truck, a virtual gallery based in Hillsborough. “Side Roads: Folk Art from Mike’s Art Truck” will be displayed on the ground floor of the OCPL Main Library in Hillsborough from January 4, 2016 through February 26, 2016. The exhibit features artwork by nine self-taught artists, including Carrboro’s St. George and Hillsborough’s Sam Ezell. Self-taught artists Charlie Lucas, Michael Banks, Buddy Snipe, bailey jack, Bob Hart, Bennie Morrison, and Leonard Jones are also represented.
Longtime collectors of “outsider art” & friends of many artists, Greg and Karen Mack founded Mike’s Art Truck to promote and sell the work of self-taught living artists. Mike’s Art Truck has no physical gallery location, and the truck is only an imaginary one driven by their cat Mike. Artwork is shown through cooperation with other businesses and public spaces and is displayed and sold online. Since moving to Hillsborough in 2012, the Macks have curated folk art shows for the Orange County Public Library, the Chapel Hill Public Library, the Hillsborough Visitors Center, and the Orange County Historical Museum.
Exhibition artwork is available for purchase directly through Mike’s Art Truck and can be picked up after the conclusion of the show. Contact Mike’s Art Truck for information by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or visit their website at www.mikesarttruck.com.
The OCPL Main Library is located at 137 W. Margaret Lane in downtown Hillsborough. Admission to the exhibit is free and open to the public during regular library hours. Free parking is available. For more information about the library, please visit www.co.orange.nc.us/library.
