c. bailey jackson is discovering herself as a folk artist after working many years in the corporate world. She has tried her hand with different materials, and finds that she prefers painting with acrylics, enjoying the freedom of expression that they afford. bailey has quite a knack for finding discarded wooden cabinet doors and they become the canvases for many of her paintings. Her work gathered fame when a painting called “Moon Doggie” was chosen for a house featured on HGTV. Now there are an ever-growing number of doggies trapped in the moonlight, all painted with a great deal of affection. bailey says they only exist in her mind, but dog lovers can see that they are in her heart as well. Another series of paintings are beautiful “tablescapes” which evoke the best memories of life in the Southern kitchen and at the Southern dinner table. Using fluid lines and bright colors, bailey’s goal for her art is to bring joy to the viewer, the same joy she feels in creating it. Both of these tributes to Chimayo are painted on antique mahogany cabinet doors dating from 1918.
While visiting New Mexico the artist was captivated by the town of Chimayo. A combination of history and legend attest to the healing powers which emanate from the church and the surrounding earth. Her experiences there made a lasting impression.
