Carol Roll
Carol Roll loves beautiful vintage objects and the memories they evoke. She began making her paper mache figures in 2004, incorporating bits of antique toys or jewelry, and selling the creations in her antique store in Ormond Beach, Florida. Soon the figures began to outsell the antiques and Carol decided to devote herself fulltime to her newfound obsession.
At first glance they may be mistaken for clay or ceramic works, but Carol’s pieces are indeed paper mache, built up from scratch or from a tiny handmade armature over a period of several days. Carol lovingly adds tiny antique objects as accents and then paints the figure all around in minute detail to illustrate what she refers to as “impish memories.”
The resulting art pieces are delicate, detailed, nuanced, humorous and bittersweet. Each finished piece is absolutely unique—the designs are not duplicated.
Carol works from her home studio which she has named "Nostalgic Folk Art Studio." Her work can be found in specialty and folk art galleries in the Southeast and she also sells directly from her own website.
