Ernest Lee, known by everyone as "the chicken man," can be found painting and selling his signature "funky chickens" on Hudson Street in downtown Columbia, with a big grin on his face. He has been painting and drawing since he was a child, but he owes his fame to the wacky happy chickens in all sorts of colors and costumes dancing around on their little stick legs. He paints on scrap wood that is rarely straight, often warped or broken, so don't try to confine these chickens to a box. Sometimes other subjects show up also, but the chicken remains the main attraction. Not long ago some locals refused to let Ernest set up shop on the street, but it didn't take long for him to find a street that welcomed him. Now Ernest himself is a local tourist attraction. Nowadays you can even find Ernest on Facebook.
